The Southern Ocean can be a pretty rough place at times. Weather systems spin off of Antarctica and make their way north. They circle the globe and as they pass through the Southern Ocean, there is no land mass to break them up so they tend to build on themselves. You can find some horrific seas down there, and there are many stories of ships succumbing to the onslaught. This is the bow of a Russian Icebreaker. The waves over the bow rise up about 35-40 feet. I was about 60 feet up and was getting soaked as each wave broke over the bow. I ruined my camera getting this shot...
