This Simnia (Delonovolva aequalis) lives on red Gorgonians in the California Channel Islands. They range from Monterey Bay south to Isla San Martin in Baja, California. They feed on the Gorgonians and this one is laying eggs. The red and white spotted and spiked part is called the mantle and is part of the animal itself.
