Strands of kelp rise to the surface in the California Channel Islands. Kelp grows in cold water and with the proper conditions it can grow over 12 inches in one day. Huge strands grow in depth up to 100 feet deep. The warm waters of El Nino decimated the Kelp along the California coast, but it is quickly rebounding and huge kelp beds can again be seen along the coastline.
